Questions and Answers about IELTS

Sunday, 26th March 2017

I get asked a lot of questions about the IELTS exam from my students. Here are 3 very common questions:

Q: Can I write my answers in upper case (capitals) rather than lower case?
A: Yes – as long as the writing is legible.

Q: Can I use my own personal experience in my writing answers?
A: Yes – it is fine for Writing Task 2. In fact, usually Writing Task 2 asks test takers to include examples from their own knowledge or experience. However, do not write too much. I recommend 2-3 sentences.

Q: Is IELTS getting more difficult?
A: IELTS is not getting harder or easier. There is a process for designing IELTS test items that ensures the level of difficulty is consistent.
